Thunderstorm PvP will be discontinuing services in 2018.

As I stated several months ago, “success to us is moving forward with our ideas.” Thunderstorm was always about providing a place for players to keep experiencing the legacy of the Overcast Network. While it has been a fantastic year, we must keep moving forward with new ideas.

Why?

Over the past few months it’s been quite clear that the popularity of competitive minecraft has decreased drastically. While we did have plans to expand upon the creative side, we no longer feel there is a proper audience out there for it. It was never our intention to host the server for longer than a year, so we finally feel we have accomplished all we set out to do.

What’s going to happen to the server and website?

We can guarantee at the moment that Thunderstorm will remain open through the end of 2017. After we decide on an official closing date, we will make a separate announcement. Our main website will remain online after the server itself has closed, so profiles will be visible for ~6-12 months after the server closing. The forums will go offline around the same date as the server.

One last thought…

It has been an honor to go down as one of the Overcast Network legacy servers. I personally would like to thank all of our staff members for their excellent work over the past year. Having a creative staff team was truly a great experience, and It is my hope that they will all go on to be successful in life. As per our development efforts, I would like to thank @Woobie for his amazing help throughout the year. Although we will be keeping our main project source files private, feel free to take a look at our public projects on GitHub.

We will put up another announcement post closer to the official date.

Thank you all for playing on Thunderstorm, and please enjoy it while we’re still online. :thunder_cloud_rain:

Lastly, here are some interesting stats for those who are interested.

Over the past 9 months Thunderstorm has had:

  • 5850 unique players join
  • 237,353 Kills/Deaths
  • 31,674 Objectives Completed

October Update - Halloween Time :jack_o_lantern:

It’s finally Halloween Time on Thunderstorm! We have been hard at work over the last few weeks to present a super fun and spooky Halloween. In our update today we will detail many of the new features of our special Halloween celebration. We will also talk about the future offerings we plan to have on the server.

Halloween Lobby & Mixed

To celebrate Halloween we have updated our lobby with wonderful decorations, as well as a few new gizmo offerings. Our new and improved gizmo menu, now offers the ability to view different categories of gizmos. Our current two include “Classics” and “Halloween”. With the release of the Halloween update, our three new gizmos include the Bat Blaster, Exploding Pumpkins, and Ghost. So get ready to spend some sparkling and try them out.

With the release of this new Gizmo system, we will be able to add more gizmos on a regular basis. In the coming weeks, expect to see a release of the rank exclusive gizmos, as well as one to two more classics ones.

Over on Mixed, we’ve switched over to a special Halloween Votation! With twenty five Halloween maps to play on, we’re sure this will be a fun way to celebrate the season.

MapDev Plans

As I last stated in the August Monthly Update, we have been working on a special MapDev server for the public. Although our timetable has shifted slightly, worry not as we are still working on this awesome experience. The time we put into making this the best it can be will ensure a future of quality map production. While we don’t have an estimated release date at the moment, it is our goal to make sure it is released before the end of the year.

Website Overhaul

Over the coming weeks, we will be focusing our development efforts on reorganizing and optimizing parts of our main website. Our main goal with this update will be to redesign several pages as well address some of the speed issues which some users have experienced. Check back soon for more updates on features and improvements.

That’s everything we have to share today, we hope everyone enjoys the special offerings and thanks again for playing on Thunderstorm PvP :jack_o_lantern:

August Update - MapDev Coming Soon

Hello everyone, hope you have been having a great time on Thunderstorm over the last month. We would like to apologize for the lack of a formal update over the past few weeks, as we have been hard at work on a very exciting new experience. While this update is short, there will be a followup announcement within 1-2 weeks after this post.

MapDev

In just a few short weeks, we will be launching a public MapDev server. This one of a kind map development experience will allow for all players to create their own maps. With the ability to use our wide assortment of specially created tools, we hope this will help improve the map building process and allow for a new and creative maps to be created. One of the features we know players will look forward to include our automated XML setup guide. Which will allow for new maps to be created without writing a single line of XML! All players will have access to three separate personal worlds*, and for every full map submitted a new world slot will be granted complementary. We will have many more details to discuss over the following weeks, so stay tuned for more updates.

Once again I would like to thank you all for playing on Thunderstorm and I am very excited to invite you all to MapDev in just a few short weeks. Until then, enjoy Thunderstorm PvP.

July Update - The Lobby Returns

Greetings everyone! We have several very exciting and interesting topics to discuss today. Before I start I’d like to thank you all for staying loyal to Thunderstorm and get ready, as we have some very enjoyable features to discuss.

The Lobby

After a few months of refurbishment, we are proud to announce the return of our Lobby! The lobby now features an incredible build by our Map Developers. During this transition period we will still only be running Mixed as our primary PGM server, but expect Capture & Destroy to be online within the coming weeks. Along with the lobby comes some more exciting new features.

Ranks

Our new ranks allow players to start spending their sparklings to enhance their Thunderstorm experience. Some of the featured perks of ranks include special flairs, choosing teams, and sparkling multipliers. Ranks are available to everyone and do not require you to donate, they can be purchased via the sparkling menu in the lobby, and will apply to all connected Thunderstorm servers. We do plan on releasing more exclusive content for ranks in the future, so stay tuned for updates.

Gizmos

The fantastic new gizmo system we have created allows for players to access fun items to play with in the lobby. Our current gizmo lineup include the firework launcher, slap stick, water dropper, and slot machine. New gizmos will be released on a regular basis, so keep checking back to see.

Coming Soon

On the horizon we have several new exciting features coming soon! We are currently beginning our Map Dev overhaul, which will for the first time open up MapDev to the public. Within the month we will be posting signups for a limited beta run, so stay tuned for more information. Also coming this month you can expect more staff hosted events and parties! So get ready to have some fun.

That just about wraps up the news for this monthly update. As always it is our pleasure to host this experience for all of you, and we hope you take advantage of all we have to offer. Have a fantastic summer and to all our American friends Happy 4th of July. Thanks for playing on Thunderstorm PvP.

Monthly Update -June

Hello everyone, first off we would like to apologize for the lack of recent updates. We have been hard at work on providing new experiences and we have some really interesting plans coming up. So let’s get started.

Map Voting

As most of you have probably noticed, we have had map voting deployed for a few weeks now. Map voting gives players the chance to vote for a randomly selected map at the end of each match. The move from the traditional rotation style gameplay is a new direction we believe the community will enjoy, and hope to expand upon in the future. It is our goal to provide a unique experience to our players, and map voting is just the beginning of what’s to come.

Map Development

We have big plans in regards to the overall map development process. I’m pleased to announce that within the coming month, we will be launching a public map development experience open to all players. It is our goal to breath fresh life into the map dev community, and provide a public showcase of what’s possible with PGM. We will be releasing more details within the coming weeks, so get ready to build!

The Lobby

As some of our early members may recall, our original setup included a lobby and two servers. Within the coming weeks, we are excited to announce the return of our lobby and three different PGM servers. It is our goal to provide a stable and ever expanding experience to all our players, so with the return of the lobby comes the introduction of several exciting new network wide features. We will release details in a separate update within the coming week.

One last thought

Success is a difficult idea to process. To some people, success can be through accomplishing a goal, to others it’s monetary gain. Here at Thunderstorm, success to us is moving forward with our ideas. We are not in it for the money, we don’t care about beating competitors, our goal is simple. We aim to provide a fun, ever expanding, and innovative minecraft server. Running a minecraft server in today’s environment is not an easy task, and in order to provide the best experience possible, difficult decisions must be made. We are going to stick to our belief in focusing on the seamless integration of our network, and the implementation of new and exciting features. We have plans to focus on more community based activities, but currently our goal is to keep innovating.

"Let’s go invent tomorrow rather than worrying about what happened yesterday.” - Steve Jobs

  • Hi @fulanit0
Thank you very much for the suggestion. I believe we’re going to keep the current layout of sparklings though, mainly due to the fact that not all staff members have access to the sparkling reward command.

Also stay tuned for an announcement on the forums homepage soon.

Thanks for playing on Thunderstorm for a while and your continued feedback, we really appricate it!

  • Hi staff!

An interesting suggestion just came to my mind! I think it would be much better if you replace the number of sparklings that every player has with the total sparklings every player had earned so that staff, who can access to sparkling give-away commands, show a number of coins more representative and people who buy gizmos and/or ranks can show they’ve played a lot.

I would also like you to look to the second suggestion I proposed in the topic ‘Website Suggestions’ some months ago, because that would really help to navigate through the website.

Hope you can improve that and thanks for reading!

  • @fulanit0 sorry again!
Can’t believe I missed that haha. I forgot to remove the limit of 200 that was used for testing. It’s been removed now and all profile pages now display the proper objective counts.

Thanks again for pointing out the issue and let me know if you find any more!
